The future of Ghana's National Theatre is set to be transformed, with a portion of a $30 million fund dedicated to its renovation, as confirmed by the Minister of Tourism, Creative Arts, and Culture, Abla Dzifa Gomashie. But here's where it gets controversial... While the funds are significant, the Minister hints that the entire $30 million might not solely be allocated to the theatre's refurbishment. This has sparked debates among stakeholders and the public, with some questioning the allocation of resources and others expressing optimism for the project's completion. The Minister, however, remains optimistic, stating that the long-awaited renovation will commence in 2026, marking a significant milestone for the iconic venue. Beyond the National Theatre, the Minister is also focused on completing various regional projects around the country, most of which are in various stages of completion. 'In all the regions, there are structures that we started and are in various stages of completion; I’ve gone around to see them… so my job is to make sure that all these are completed. I am looking forward to that,' she said. This commitment to completing regional projects alongside the National Theatre renovation highlights the Minister's comprehensive approach to cultural infrastructure development in Ghana.
