Isabel Gose Shatters European Record in 400 Freestyle
The 2025 European Short Course Championships in Lublin, Poland, witnessed a historic moment in women's swimming as Isabel Gose from Germany broke Mireia Belmonte Garcia's long-standing European record in the 400 freestyle. Gose's time of 3:54.33 not only set a new benchmark but also marked a significant improvement over Belmonte's previous record of 3:54.52, set in 2013.
Gose's performance was a testament to her exceptional swimming skills and strategic pacing. She maintained a strong pace throughout the race, turning at the 150-meter mark more than half a second ahead of the record pace. Her consistent splits, including a remarkable final 50-meter split of 28.71, contributed to her record-breaking time.
This achievement propels Gose into the top 10 performers in history for the 400 freestyle, solidifying her place among the sport's elite. Her time is just 0.17 seconds slower than the current world record held by Summer McIntosh of Canada, set in 2024.
The race also featured other notable performances, with Simona Quadarella of Italy winning the silver medal and breaking Federica Pellegrini's Italian record from 2011. Quadarella's time of 3:56.70 was nearly a second faster than Pellegrini's previous record, showcasing her impressive progress in the event.
The 2025 European Short Course Championships continue to showcase the talent and determination of swimmers across Europe, with records being broken and new stars emerging.
