Middlesbrough's ascent to the summit was fueled by a dominant first-half display against Sheffield United, resulting in a 2-1 victory. Tommy Conway and Riley McGree's goals within the initial 45 minutes were pivotal, propelling Middlesbrough two points ahead of Coventry after a remarkable sixth consecutive win.
Sheffield United's hopes were momentarily revived by Patrick Bamford's goal in the second half. However, their dreams were dashed when debutant Joe Rothwell received a red card with just 10 minutes remaining, making a comeback highly unlikely.
The game began with a promising start for Sheffield United's Gus Hamer, whose early curling shot was skillfully saved by Middlesbrough's goalkeeper Sol Brynn. But Middlesbrough soon took charge, showcasing a series of sharp attacks that repeatedly breached the home defense.
A well-placed pass from Hayden Hackney to Conway on the left side of the area could have extended Middlesbrough's lead, but Conway's shot from a favorable position went wide.

Sheffield United's search for an early second-half goal to spark a comeback was almost successful when Callum O'Hare's cross just missed the waiting Bamford.
Bamford eventually scored in the 73rd minute, reducing the deficit to 2-1. But Rothwell's red card for a dangerous challenge on Alan Browne in the 80th minute effectively ended Sheffield United's hopes of a draw.
