Red Sox Fans, Get Ready! The Boston Red Sox are poised to make a splash this offseason, aiming to add some serious power to their lineup. According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the team is eyeing up to two key players from a list of five potential sluggers. This news has sent ripples of excitement through Red Sox Nation, promising an interesting season ahead.
Heyman's report, published in the New York Post, reveals the Red Sox's targets: Kyle Schwarber, Pete Alonso, Kazuma Okamoto, J.T. Realmuto, and Alex Bregman. The team has the financial flexibility to make these moves, thanks to savings from a mid-season trade.
"With the quarter-billion dollars saved from the smart midseason dumping of Rafael Devers, Boston looks like a huge player this winter in what shapes up as a battle royal in baseball’s only division featuring three legit big-market teams," Heyman noted.
But here's where it gets interesting: The Red Sox seem to prefer right-handed hitters, but Kyle Schwarber remains a strong contender. His impressive performance, including a season with 56 home runs, coupled with his positive clubhouse presence and prior experience with the team, makes him a valuable asset.
According to @JonHeyman, the Red Sox are considering signing “up to two” of the following bats:
- Kyle Schwarber
- Pete Alonso
- Kazuma Okamoto
- J.T. Realmuto
- Alex Bregman
They like RHH but Schwarber is said to be “strongly in the mix.”

Many fans are hoping for a combination of Bregman and Schwarber if the Red Sox secure two players. Schwarber's previous stint with the team, though brief, left a lasting impression.
During the summer of 2021, Schwarber joined the Red Sox in a mid-season trade from the Washington Nationals. He quickly adapted to playing first base and delivered a .291 average, seven home runs, and 18 RBI in 41 regular-season games. His impact was felt immediately, boosting the team to the ALCS.
And this is the part most people miss: Schwarber's postseason performance was even more remarkable. He hit a grand slam in Game 3 against the Houston Astros, contributing to a franchise record of three grand slams in just two games. Now, as free agency approaches after a stellar 2025 season with Philadelphia, Schwarber is exactly the kind of impactful player the Red Sox are seeking.
