Yuan Li, a Beijing-based photographer, splits his time between the slopes and the lens, working as a ski instructor in the winter and pursuing his passion for photography in the summer. This particular image was captured during a trip to Norway and Iceland with friends, a journey dedicated to witnessing and photographing the breathtaking aurora borealis. He found the perfect scene in Sakrisøy, a small island in Lofoten, Norway. The foreground features a charming yellow homestay, while the majestic Olstinden mountain rises in the background.
"It had snowed heavily all day," Li remembers, painting a vivid picture. "As I was setting up to capture this scene, the snow stopped and the sun came out, which made the perfect environment for taking photos." The result? A stunning photograph taken with his phone, later enhanced to bring out the vibrant colors of the house and mountain peak.
"The contrast is the most important thing about this photo," Li explains. "The warm yellow of the buildings contrasts beautifully with the cool tones of the mountains, and the triangular shape of the eaves mirrors the triangular peak of the mountain."
But here's where it gets controversial... When Li shared this image online, some people questioned its authenticity, even suggesting it was generated by AI. However, Li remains unfazed. "I'm not worried," he states confidently. "AI will never replace my photography, because my photos are warm and full of imagination. That's something AI could never achieve."
